Attention Parents:
Dear Washington Middle School Families,
We want to inform you of an incident that occurred at school today to ensure transparency and maintain open communication.
At approximately 1:30 PM, a student reported to administration that another student had shown them what appeared to be a gun inside a classroom. School administration immediately responded by locating and safely securing the student in question and their belongings.
Upon further investigation and questioning, the student informed administration of where the item was hidden. The item was located and safely secured. It was determined that the gun was not a real firearm, but rather a BB gun designed to resemble a real weapon.
While the item was not a functional firearm, the presence of a replica weapon on school grounds is a serious matter. The student involved was arrested, and charges are currently pending. In addition, the school will follow district and state policies regarding discipline related to the possession of a replica weapon on campus.
Please know that the safety of our students and staff remains our highest priority. We are grateful for the student who came forward and for the swift actions of our staff in handling the situation appropriately and safely.
